Dawn Quest

With more than 20 years’ experience in publishing, content creation, and television production, I’ve spent my career learning how to tell clear, engaging stories that people actually want to watch.

In television, I was used to being behind the camera - not in front of it. But after some encouragement from friends, I decided to step outside my comfort zone and share my own work.

While building my model railway layout, I began sharing tips and techniques on YouTube with my channel Model Railway Quest.

Within 2 months, the channel was monetised, within 10 months, it had attracted over 10,000 subscribers - proof that there’s a real audience for well-presented, thoughtful model railway content.

I know how easy it is to delay starting a YouTube channel - or to lose momentum after you begin. Even with years of production experience behind me, stepping in front of the camera felt uncomfortable at first. And I’ve seen many talented model railway enthusiasts hesitate simply because they weren’t sure what to film, how to present it, or whether anyone would watch.

So, I created this bootcamp - bringing together professional production experience and a genuine passion for the hobby, to provide structure, support, and a simple step-by-step path so you can grow your YouTube channel and create something you're truly proud of.

FAQs

Do I need to have any previous experience of filming or editing?

While it helps to have some experience, it's not necessary. If you can point and shoot a video clip on your phone, that's all you'll need to start.

I don't have a YouTube channel yet. Can I still take part?

Absolutely - I will show you how to set up your channel, including naming, branding, settings and more. The goal is by the end of the week for you to have your first video on YouTube (and you can set it to private if you don't want to share it).

I already have a YouTube channel with a growing subscriber base. Will this course still help?

Yes - if you already have a YouTube channel with a small base of subscribers - you'll learn how to optimise what you have, to improve filming, editing, thumbnails and marketing to attract more subscribers and move towards monetisation.

Do I need to be on Facebook?

For the best experience of the course it's recommended that you have a Facebook account. If you don't have one and would like to set one up for the course, I can assist you with this. If you prefer not to be on Facebook, all the course lessons, materials, worksheets and templates will be emailed to you every day of the course. You can also email me for help with any of the course material.

Do I have to buy lots of expensive equipment or filming and editing software?

Absolutely not - while it would be beneficial to have some basic equipment to film and edit your course video, most of this is very inexpensive and you likely have it already. There will be a list of the equipment needed inside your workbook, which you will receive on purchasing the course.

What if I can't make the live sessions?

Each lesson will stay up in the Facebook group so you can watch - or rewatch - in your own time. Videos of each lesson will also be sent out to participants every evening.

What if I don't understand or get stuck with any of the lessons?

As well as teaching each daily workshop, I'll be on hand in the Facebook group and via Whatsapp during the week of the course to answer any questions or help you if you need it.

What if I'm not happy with the course?

I offer a 100% no-quibble refund if you're not happy with the course.
